Safety and Duty of Care

Rugby ball and cleated shoes on grass field.

Your students. Your standards. Our support on the ground.

We know a principal must approve every overseas tour. We build safety and approvals into the tour from the first conversation.

  • Every activity risk assessed. Tour-specific risk assessments cover transport, hotels, training, matches, water activities, heat, food and medical care. Each hazard is rated before and after controls, with FRE, provider and school controls set out side by side. We supply them in Word so you can add your own controls and approve them under your own policy.
  • Your supervision model. Your school sets and keeps its own staffing ratios. An FRE director with a NSW Working With Children Check leads every tour, and any other guides are vetted.
  • Safe, sanctioned matches. Every match is approved by the Fiji Rugby Union and played under World Rugby laws, with age-appropriate opposition, a qualified referee, medics and an ambulance on site. Any concussion ends rugby for that player for the rest of the tour.
  • Checked providers. Hotels, transport companies and activity operators are vetted, and we hold copies of their insurance and safety documents.
  •  Clear go and no-go rules. Every activity has set limits for weather, heat and river conditions, with a planned fallback.

  • Emergency planning. Medical response, missing-student and escalation procedures are agreed with your staff before departure.
  • Insurance. FRE holds public liability and professional indemnity cover for its operations in Fiji. Every traveller needs travel insurance that includes rugby, medical and emergency evacuation cover, and we set out the minimum requirements for your group.
  • Safeguarding and privacy. FRE has a child safeguarding policy. Photography, consent and student information are managed in line with your school’s requirements, and nothing is posted to social media without your school’s consent.
  • Cultural protocols. At a kava ceremony a teacher accepts on the group’s behalf. Students do not drink kava unless the school has arranged it with written parent consent..
